This is commonly mandated for security clearances by entities such as the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Department of Defense (DOD), National Industry Security Program (NISP), and other pivotal federal government agencies.

Most SWFT fingerprinting appointments take about 15–20 minutes to complete, provided the fingerprints are not difficult to capture.
After you submit your fingerprints through SWFT, the FBI fingerprint-based background check results are generally valid for 120 days. However, the FBI deletes the report from its servers within 30 days of sending the results to the authorized agency. Re-fingerprinting may be needed if the requesting agency hasn't used the results within that timeframe.
It is a unique four-character alphanumeric code assigned by the DCSA (Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency) to identify the agency or organization that requests background investigations.
